The life and times of a Librarian in Training.
A Master's Degree in one year...there are times when I feel as though I need a cape and times when I need a nap. I am taking a year sabbatical from my teaching job in Texas to get my degree in Library Media. I have moved home to Oklahoma to live with my parents and younger sister. This was not an easy choice since I am an extremely independent woman. Moving home with "Mom and Dad" seemed like a step backward in my independent and, if I am honest, prideful eyes. But, I have an amazing and supportive family. They have been there for me through the struggles, tears, frustrations, gripes and cheers! Or, as the conversation with my little sister goes, "What are you doing?" "Homework." "Again?" "More like always." "Ugg, you are a-l-l-l-ways doing homework. When are you going to do something else?"

I am completing the degree tract in one year. This constitutes a heavy load, hence the need for a cape or possibly a nap, but curling up with a book tempers the stress of all the projects and homework. Thankfully my Young Adult Literature had me reading almost twenty novels for young adults this semester. These books were the relief from my other work.
I have loved the time to read, and more so, loved the opportunity to share the books I am reading with my kids. No, I do not have children of my own. Every teacher knows our students are our "kids". Since I do not have a classroom this year, my "kids" have been the students in my book club I started for my class and the ones I substitute for at local schools. The book club was such a neat experience! I know it is something I will continue when I have a library of my own. Even when my assignment was over, my kiddos and I discussed continuing the book club in an online format. We realized that having an outlet to discuss a book you are reading is a wonderful thing!
I have learned that I have a love for young adult literature. I have always been at the elementary level, but if the good Lord chooses to place me in middle school I know I will be ok, thrive even! I have gained experience with this neat age through my book club, substituting and literature. I am not sure why I have always been afraid of teens and tweens. They are a pretty cool bunch.
I have also learned that I...in no manner, shape or form, want to be a researcher! My Qualitative Research class has been interesting and I have learned a lot. My teacher is very passionate about her subject and I admire and respect her beyond words, but I know it is not my cup of tea. APA format has eaten my lunch. I prefer to read books, not write papers! Unlike some of my very talented friends...ahem...you know who you are. I am not a writer. My skills lie in other venues.

I have also had the opportunity to visit with and observe some amazing librarians. I have learned so much my brain is overflowing with ideas and knowledge. I am so eager to get started in my own library and implement some of these great ideas! I have a long way to go and much more to learn. This semester has flown by. I cannot believe it is almost over! I have already registered for the five classes I will be taking for next semester. Yes, you read correctly, five classes! Please say a prayer for my sanity and for my blessed family.
My plan is to continue my blog adding book teasers and teaching/librarian ideas. If you are interested in interacting with me, please stay tuned.
